Extreme weather needs extreme solutions
Next Friday we start testing the icycle design in desert conditions. Team SunGlacier is excited to see how the ice will grow. A great test, just before finishing all presentations for WordWaterForum6 in Marseille.

Designing is a dynamical process. It changes in time and follows in our project the outcome of the technological tests. Our new idea is making icycles at the shadowside of the sculpture in a 2 phase cooling system. Everybody can touch the icycles and experience the excitement of cold ice in a hot and dry desert.

We are now testing if we can produce more ice by first making water at a higher temperature. The water drips on a lower bar with freezing temperatures and turns into ice. Yesterday in extreme desert conditions: 45C/113F – relative humidity of 20%.1st phase is generating water 2nd phase (generating ice)

Tomorrow discussion with the design/construction team about the idea of producing a non symmetrical shape. In my view a breakthrough in the design process .

Yesterday we started the new tests to look how much ice and water we can produce in extreme desert conditions. It’s really against my intuition to see the ice growing in that heat and the melting water is dripping of like a small waterfall. Some outcome of the tests is really amazing. Next year we continue the experiments. On behalve of
